Traditionally the Maid of Honor is the Bride's right hand man. In this time-honored and often thankless role, it's the Maid of Honor's duty to act as a support system for the bride in her time of chaos.

The role of the Maid of Honor will range from helping the bride choose bridesmaids dresses to making a speech at the ceremony.

The Maid of Honor should be chosen for their emotional stability and composure in a time of crisis. The Maid of Honor (or Matron of Honor if she is already married) is the one who will sign the marriage licence as a legal witness.

Additional responsibilities of the Maid of Honor may include....

  • Assist the Bride with any errands.
  • Help addressing the invitations.
  • Plan the bridal shower, with help from the bridesmaids.
  • Keeps the Bride on schedule and calm.
  • Helps the Bride get dressed with help from the bridesmaids.
  • The Maid of Honor will be the one to keep the bridesmaids in touch with what is going on. This includes all pre-wedding parties, bridal showers, rehearsals and dress-fittings. If the wedding is out of town, make sure the bridesmaids have adequate transportation and a place to stay for the big day.
  • Hold the Brides bouquet during the wedding ceremony.
  • Hold the Grooms ring during the ceremony.
  • Signs the wedding certificate as a witness of the wedding.
  • The Maid of Honor acts as a go between for the Bride and Groom and their guests; answering questions regarding the details of the wedding and the reception, which stores they are registered at and assist in booking accommodation for out of town guests.
  • The Maid of Honor will be escorted by the Best Man.
  • She will dance with the Best Man during the bridal party dance.
  • The Maid of Honor helps the Bride get changed and takes charge of the wedding gown after the wedding day.
