Flower Girls – The Flower Girl’s duties and responsabilities depends on the age and level of maturity of your flower girls.

Flower girls and ring bearers are adorable, but they do come with their own unique problems. Who pays for their outfits? Where do they sit? Do the bridesmaids have to baby-sit them?

Traditionally the flower girl is meant to walk down the aisle before the wedding party, preparing the way for the bride. Often the flower girl is so adorable that she steals the show, and any tension before the wedding is instantly dissolved.

The ideal age for a flower girl is between the ages of 4 and 8, but many brides like to include a special youg girl in her ceremony as young as 2. An older child will relish the idea of such a special occasion and will rise to the challenge. Many wedding processions have been ruined by a young child screaming and crying who does not want to walk down the aisle in a scratchy, itchy dress while the whole world is watching.

Being a flower girl is a very stressful for a young child, carefully consider choosing a child you feel can handle the pressure. Don’t feel obligated to a have a flower girl in the wedding procession if you are do not have a suitable candidate.

Duties of the flower girl…

If you have chosen a flower girl who is very young, 2-3 years old, her duties will be limited to carrying a flower basket and walking down the aisle in a straight line.

In some occasions the flower girl will spread rose petals on the aisle as a path for the bride.

The flower girl acts an escort for the ring bearer – provided they get along reasonably well!

An older flower girl will be able to handle more responsabilities, she could mange the guest book, assist with the favor making or help the bride and groom pass out the cake.
